Creating a To-Do List Will Help You Achieve Your Goals

By Corrie Petersen

At the end of the year or the beginning of the new year most business owners create a list of yearly goals they want to achieve. These goals can be anything you want them to be as there is no right or wrong goal to set. Yearly goals are too big to handle so it’s important you break them down into small bite sized pieces that are easy to achieve.

When you have yearly goals it’s best to take them down to a monthly goal. Yearly goals can cause you to feel overwhelmed and that may cause you to give up after a short about of time. The best way to do this is to decide what it will take on a monthly basis to achieve your goal. You’ll need to write everything down that must be done to reach the goal at the month level.

Once you have the monthly goal you need to take it down one more time and turn them into weekly goals. Weekly goals are small and may include only one or two tasks. Remember, it’s a lot easier to achieve two tasks than it is to work six tasks. When you have your weekly goal in mind you’ll need to write down everything it will take to achieve your goal so you ultimately achieve your yearly goal.

Now that you have this process completed it’s time to create to-do lists with the individual tasks related to your goals. You don’t want to forget anything because you won’t achieve your goal if you do miss something. There are several ways to write your to-do list so it’s best to find what works for you. One way is to use a spiral notebook that you can carry with you at all times. Another way is to use a notepad that will fit in your calendar or purse. The last option is to use an online tool like Evernote or Google Task List.

When you break your goals down into weekly goals you’ll be able to achieve them easier and you won’t stress over the size of the goal. When you achieve your goal you’ll feel great about it and you’ll want to continue working so you can achieve more. One thing to remember is it’s a great accomplishment to achieve a goal and you need to celebrate. Celebrations will help you to continue working so you can achieve more and have more celebrations.
